ROOT CONTROL MEMBRANE/BARRIER

Many of Australia’s trees, bushes and other varieties of plants take in a lot of water when faced with adverse conditions. This means that once the water is depleted from one part of the soil, the roots will begin to disperse to obtain more water. This dispersion of roots can cause significant damage to other plants, as well as walls, footpaths and driveways. To prevent damage from root systems, it is always best to install a root barrier.

What is a root barrier and how does it work?

Our Root Control Barrier consists of a flexible High-Density Polythene membrane designed to restrict or redirect the unwanted movement of root growth.

A root barrier is ideally installed when first planting a tree, however can be installed around an established tree with expert advice.

The tree barrier can be used directly around the tree itself, or used to block off a certain direction leading to structures that may be damaged. A root barrier is installed 600m -1000mm into the ground. Preventing tree roots from growing outwards. Forcing them to grow down and away from areas they could damage.

Root Barrier Varieties and Features

Root barriers are made of 1mm thick UV stabilised polyethylene and comes in 30m rolls in a range of sizes including:

• 900mm
• 1200mm

Root barrier is easy to use with a range of benefits and features including:

• Stops the spread of roots to unwanted areas
• Reduces damage to walkways, driveways, garden beds, roads, and infrastructure
• Easy to install, can be cut to shape, and is cost-effective
• Joined by butyl tape to form a tight seal, blocking moisture and vapor
• UV-stabilised, high-density polyethylene to ensure long-term protection
• Retains moisture around the root ball

All of the features of the Root Barrier Control are designed to allow the tree root growth to stop at the barrier. If the roots continue to grow, the barrier will force the root growth in a downward direction. Keep them away from the area you are trying to protect from root damage.
